Gov. Greitens announces Board of Inquiry for death row inmate case

Three weeks after Gov. Eric Greitens ordered a stay of execution for Marcellus Williams, he announced who would serve on the convicted killer’s review board.

In 2001, Williams was found guilty of murdering Felicia Gayle and later sentenced to death. DNA tests on the murder weapon in 2016 proved inconclusive and caused Williams’ attorneys to request executive clemency.

On Tuesday, the governor appointed five retired judges to serve on the Board of Inquiry. They include judges Booker Shaw, Michael David, Peggy McGraw Fenner, Carol Jackson and Paul Spinden.

When it completes its work, the board will report and make a recommendation to Gov. Greitens on whether or not Williams should be executed or live.
