Boone County chase ends in arrest

Boone County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Columbia man Saturday evening after a short chase that ended in Callaway County.

Sgt. Tracey Cleeton said the chase started near ABC Lane and Route Z when deputies tried to pull over Charles Edwards, 23, of Columbia, for driving a car without a license plate.

Cleeton said a female passenger got out of the car and Edwards continued to drive away.

The chase ended on County Road 276 in Callaway County after Edwards crashed his car in a ditch.

He was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident. Edwards was also wanted on failing to appear for several warrants including tampering with a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, driving while revoked and stealing.

He’s being held in the Boone County jail on a $16,000 bond.
