UPDATE: Police find methamphetamine in car involved in early morning crash

UPDATE 10:30 a.m.: After a single-vehicle car crash occurred in the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and I-70 Drive northwest Monday morning, Columbia police investigated and found methamphetamine inside the car.

Police said the crash happened as the driver headed south on Stadium Boulevard and started to veer partially into the right turn lane. The driver continued in the middle of the two lanes and crashed into the traffic light pole.

Police said the driver of the car was a 34-year-old man from Boone County and he is suspected to have used drugs before the crash happened.

The driver was transported to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

UPDATE 6:30 a.m.: Emergency crews have reopened the intersection of Stadium Boulevard near I-70.

ORIGINAL: Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and I-70 Drive northwest around 5 a.m. Monday for a car that crashed onto a pole.

ABC 17 News crews that are on the scene said the driver had to be extricated and was taken to University Hospital.

The intersection was closed for a brief time.

At this time, emergency responders are on scene.
