SCAM ALERT: Scammers posing as Boone Electric Cooperative
According to a press release from Boone Electric Cooperative, there are reports of scammers using the BEC phone number, 573-449-4181, and demanding payment information for supposed late bills. The scammers also threaten to immediately disconnect any victims that do not give them their payment information.
BEC does not handle payments over the phone. Call BEC if you’re doubtful about your payment information.
“Please, do not give your payment information to an individual asking, ever. When in doubt, please, call us and let us know if you have been targeted or want to double check your information. We also offer other secure pay options like online-bill pay, the SmartHubb app, office hours and a kiosk in our drive-thru,” says BEC.
