President Trump plans visit to Missouri

President Donald Trump will visit Missouri for the first time since assuming office.

The president’s trip to Springfield will start a campaign for tax reform, Trump’s economic adviser Gary Cohn told the Financial Times.

It has not yet been announced where or when the event will take place.

The announcement of the trip comes the same day that former Missouri Sen. Jack Danforth wrote an opinion piece in The Washington Post criticizing Trump’s actions. The piece argues that Trump’s behavior has made the country more divisive, which is opposite to the mission of the Republican Party.

“In honor of our past and in belief in our future, for the sake of our party and our nation, we Republicans must disassociate ourselves from Trump by expressing our opposition to his divisive tactics and by clearly and strongly insisting that he does not represent what it means to be a Republican,” Danforth wrote.

Trump earned 56 percent of the vote in Missouri during the presidential election. The state’s Republican Party said it was excited to host President Trump.

“This visit shows that the president is just as engaged as ever and is a direct message of continued dedication to the heartland,” state GOP Chairman Todd Graves said. “Our party is committed to the president, and we look forward to his continued progress in Missouri and across the nation.”
