Columbia man sentenced to five years for illegal possession of firearm

A Columbia man who was involved in a shooting at a local gas station was sentenced in federal court Thursday for illegally possessing a firearm.

Turbo Lindsey Midgyett, 31, was sentenced to five years in federal prison without parole.

Midgyett pleaded guilty on April 3, 2017, to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Columbia police officers responded to a gas station in the 1400 block of Rangeline on March 6, 2016. The video showed Midgyett, the second shooter in the incident, racking a handgun and firing several times in the direction of the first shooter, who misfired.

Accordign to an official release, officers went to Midgyett’s home and spoke with his girlfriend, who told officers that Midgyett is allowed to use her gun and vehicle. Officers found the gun with three rounds missing. The brand of ammunition in the gun was the same as the three rounds found at the shooting scene.

Midgyett has three prior felony convictions for robbery.
