CPD arrests assault, child-endangerment suspect

A 28-year-old Columbia man is now in custody after police say he assaulted a woman and endangered two children.

Columbia police said they responded a reported assault Sunday in the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue.

Through the investigation, officers said Robert Wallace was arguing with a 28-year-old woman in the 400 block of Lasalle Place.

When the woman tried to drive away from the area with two children, the police report said Wallace picked up a brick and threw it into the window of the victim’s car.

Police said the glass from the window caused a minor cut to the victim’s leg but the children were not physically injured.

“Wallace and the victim were previously in an intimate relationship and both Wallace and the victim are related to the children,” said the police report.

Wallace was arrested just before 5 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Lasalle Place and Pendleton Street.

Wallace is facing charges of third-degree domestic assault, two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree property damage.

A bond has not yet been set in Wallace’s case.
