ORIGINAL STORY: The Columbia Police Department confirms a man was taken into custody following a nearly five hour long standoff in Boone County.

Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Bryana Larimer told ABC 17 News the suspect taken into custody was involved in an assault with a gun around 3:52 a.m. at the 200 block of Old 63 North. Larimer didn’t have much information on what took place at the early morning incident but said it was similar to a home invasion with a gun.

The information police were able to gather from residents lead them to the 700 block of Cunningham Drive.

Police were able to obtain a search warrant to search the suspects home around 2:30 p.m., but when they arrived the man was not inside the residence.

Larimer said police got information that he might be in another residence within the same building, so police got another search warrant and was able to take the man into custody.

Columbia Police Department, Boone County Sheriff Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the SWAT team were all on scene for the standoff.

Larimer said it’s unclear how the suspect got to another apartment, or if anyone was inside the apartment that he was found in.
