Boone County deputies investigating armed home invasion

UPDATE, 5:00 p.m.: Boone County deputies are investigating a home invasion that happened around 4:00 Monday morning in the 7400 block of Sunburst Court.

Deputies said the victims, a man and a woman, reported two or three men broke down the back door of their home and came inside. The suspects left a short time later without taking anything.

The female victim told deputies that at least one of the suspects left through the back door and fired gunshots at her dog. The dog was not injured.

This happened in the Sunrise Estates subdivision. Deputies said this is one of their older but well established neighborhoods and it doesn’t see this type of violent crime.

Right now, detectives said they are investigating the possibility that the victims knew the suspects.

“I don’t believe this was a random act, but we can’t rule it out 100 percent,” said Detective Tom O’Sullivan. “We’re looking at a number of different theories but we don’t really feel at this point that it is a random act.”

O’Sullivan said people should be extra vigilant and look out for their neighbors. He recommends locking doors and being on guard, especially because the suspects are still on the loose.

The only description of the men is that they are black and one of them was wearing white gloves.
