Some mid-Missouri banks to close during eclipse
Some banks across mid-Missouri are set to close during the eclipse, and the ones that are remaining open said they’ll have a little extra security in place.
“Anytime there’s a big event in town, a football game or whatever, we always try to keep a little more alert when there’s quote-unquote strangers in town or there’s a lot of traffic and activity,” said Mary Wilkerson, the vice president of marketing for the Central Bank of Boone County.
All branches of the Central Bank of Boone County will close their doors between noon and two so their employees can experience the once-in-a-lifetime eclipse, but they’ll still have people in the building.
“We still have customers to serve whether our doors are locked or not,” said Wilkerson. “It’s not like every single human is going to leave the building.”
Wilkerson and other bank officials ABC17 News spoke with Friday did not provide specifics on their security measures but they said they are prepared for the thousands of extra people in town.
“There’s no question that security is always top of mind at any financial organization,” said Wilkerson. “It has to be.”
Banks are encouraging people to visit ATMs for cash prior to the eclipse in case of long lines or outages.
