Missouri added to states reporting salmonella from papayas
On Friday, the CDC said Missouri is among two new states reporting sicknesses linked to imported papayas. The other state is Tennessee.
Salmonella infections from the multi-state outbreak were first reported in May.
Since its last update, the CDC said 34 more people have gotten sick, including 14 who were hospitalized. The total number of illness currently adds up to 173, including 58 hospitalization.
People are advised not to eat Maradol papayas from Mexico to avoid the illness.
Caribeña, Cavi, and Valery brand papayas are all produced from the Carica de Campeche farm in Mexico and have been recalled.
The CDC said more brands could be linked as it continues investigating.
