Upgraded severe threat this evening

WEDNESDAY: Spotty showers and t-storms will move in from our southwestern counties tracking to the northeast in the morning. Breaks in the clouds by this afternoon will allow for a chance to see a little sun. Scattered showers remain possible through the afternoon as daytime highs reach into the upper 80s with high humidity. Heat indices will top out in the mid to upper 90s. More storms are possible by late-afternoon but will become more numerous in the evening, ahead of a passing cold front. There is a severe threat for all of mid-Missouri. Northwestern counties see an enhanced risk for severe storms. Risks with this threat include damaging winds, large hail, and potentially an isolated tornado or two. As you head to the southeast the threat decreases. Central mid-Missouri sees a slight risk, whereas our southeastern counties are only in a marginal risk for severe weather as the line will weaken as it tracks. Storms look to arrive in our NW counties around 9 PM.

TONIGHT: Storms will continue through the overnight hours as the cold front continues to drop to the southeast. Skies will remain partly cloudy with humid conditions. With plenty of moisture in the air we could see heavy rainfall through the night. Storms look to exit the area around 3 AM. By morning r ainfall amounts of .50″ to 1.0″ are expected in most areas, with some areas getting up to 1.50″ due to heavy rainfall. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 60s to low 70s.

EXTENDED: Any lingering showers early Thursday morning will end and we’ll be dry until Friday night with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s to end the work week. Conditions will be more comfortable as you’re headed out the door due to the lower humidity thanks to winds out of the northwest. Our next chance of rain comes Friday night into Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon we will see drying conditions as the summer-like weather continues. Temperatures will climb to near 90 by Sunday with partly cloudy skies. It will be hot and humid through the weekend. Eclipse day continues to show the greatest chance for partly cloudy skies, along with a chance for some isolated showers by the afternoon.
