Enhanced risk of severe storms through Wednesday evening
WEDNESDAY: It’s been a stormy start to Wednesday, as a wave of showers and storms have been tracking through the region. Those storms were associated with an upper level disturbance that tracked from the southwest to the northeast. On the backside of the storms, skies have gradually begun to clear with temperatures climbing into the low to mid 70s across Mid-Missouri. With sunshine in the forecast this afternoon, this will allow for recovery in the atmosphere ahead of a cold front that will track through the region tonight. While scattered showers and storms are still possible during the afternoon hours, the bulk of the activity will hold off until the evening. Temperatures through the day will top out in the low to mid 80s, with heat indices in the 90s.
TONIGHT: There is a enhanced risk for severe storms as we head into the evening for western parts of Mid-Missouri. This risk is associated with a strong cold front that will sweep through the region. The storms look to arrive in northwestern parts of Mid-Missouri as we head through 7 PM, and gradually form into a line as it tracks to the southeast. Initial risks of storms will be all modes of severe weather and gradually transition into more of a damaging wind and large hail threat, as it tracks to the southeast. Storms will continue through the overnight hours as the cold front continues to drop to the southeast. Skies will remain partly cloudy with humid conditions. With plenty of moisture in the air we could see heavy rainfall through the night. Storms look to exit the area around 3 AM. By morning r ainfall amounts of .50″ to 1.0″ are expected in most areas, with some areas getting up to 1.50″ due to heavy rainfall. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 60s to low 70s.
EXTENDED: Any lingering showers early Thursday morning will end and we’ll be dry until Friday night with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s to end the work week. Conditions will be more comfortable as you’re headed out the door due to the lower humidity thanks to winds out of the northwest. Our next chance of rain comes Friday night into Saturday morning. We could see a few strong storms associated with this overnight event, as another cold front will be tracking through Mid-Missouri. Saturday afternoon we will see drying conditions as the summer-like weather continues. Temperatures will climb to near 90 by Sunday with partly cloudy skies. It will be hot and humid through the weekend. Eclipse day continues to show the greatest chance for partly cloudy skies, along with a chance for some isolated showers by the afternoon.
