Enhanced risk of severe storms

There is an enhanced risk for severe storms as we head into the evening for western parts of Mid-Missouri. All of mid-Mo has a chance to see severe storms tonight, but the line of storms will weaken as it tracks to the southeast. This is as a strong cold front will drop into the region.

The strongest storms look to arrive in Mid-Missouri as we approaching the evening hours (7-9 PM) as a well defined line begins to track to the southeast. Initial risks of storms will include all modes of severe weather, even a small chance for an isolated tornado in our northwestern counties, but then the risks gradually transition into more of a damaging wind and large hail threat. Winds could exceeded 58 mph and hail could be 1″ in diameter or greater. Storms will continue through the overnight hours as the cold front pushes to the south. Storms look to exit our southeastern counties around 3 AM.

With plenty of moisture in the air we could see heavy rainfall through the night. By morning r ainfall amounts of .50″ to 1.0″ are expected in most areas, with some areas getting potentially seeing greater than 1.50″ of rain, where heavier downpours occur. Lingering showers are possible for the morning commute, but by Thursday afternoon mid-Missouri will be dry.
