Storms tracking through mid-Missouri by mid-week
A cold front that will track into mid-Missouri will bring a chance for storms as we head into the middle of this week. The progression of this cold front has slowed down quite a bit. Mid-Missouri could see some isolated storms as early as the early morning hours on Wednesday, but the bulk of it looks to hold off until Wednesday afternoon.
The system will bring a chance for storms for southwest mid-Mo by the morning commute on Wednesday. It’s looking like most activity during the morning will be scattered in nature as it tracks to the northeast. As we head into the afternoon the cold front will approach. This is when we see an increased chance for a more defined line of storms to track through mid-Missouri. Until the cold front completely passes the area, we will continue to see the chance for scattered storms through Thursday morning.
With this storm system there is a marginal risk for severe weather. With this threat we see risks for winds greater than 58 mph, as well as potentially large hail, but these threats remain low.
With plenty of moisture in the atmosphere we see a greater risk for potentially heavy rainfall. Areas to the west will likely see higher rainfall totals, ranging up to 1.5″. Most of mid-Missouri will likely see 0.5″ or greater.
Behind this front we will see temperatures drop just slightly. The more significant and noticeable change will be the decrease in humidity. This will allow heat indices to drop back into the 80s under more comfortable conditions by Friday.
