Downed power lines darken Columbia neighborhood
The 1700 block of Providence Road is temporarily closed as workers from Columbia Power and Light attempt to clear multiple power lines that were knocked down.
Columbia police officers on scene said they believe a commercial equipment vehicle made contact with the power lines around 2 a.m., severing the connection and leaving the live electrical lines on the road.
As of 3 a.m., the City of Columbia’s outage map showed a small power outage in the area of Providence Road and I-70.
Officers said it’s unclear how long crews will have to work to restore power and clear the road.
CPD said no injuries were caused by the downed power lines.
