This week marks the return of summer temps across Mid-Missouri

TODAY: Outside of a few chance isolated showers in southern portions of Mid-Missouri, we’ll remain dry and warm today. Winds out of the south under 9 mph will certainly remind us that it’s still summer across the region. Highs today under partly cloudy skies will climb into the mid to upper 80s, with heat indices approaching 90 degrees.

TONIGHT: The partly cloudy skies will persist through the evening hours, with a noticeable difference in humidity. Thanks to southerly winds it will remain humid across Mid-Missouri with temperatures bottoming out near 70 degrees. Winds through the night will be out of the south under 8 mph.

EXTENDED: Temperatures will continue to increase to seasonal levels in the upper 80s by the middle of the week. As humidity increases throughout the week, heat index values will make it feel like the mid to upper 90s. We will continue to see a chance for showers and thunderstorms Tuesday through Thursday. The best chance for storms will arrive beginning Tuesday evening, as a line of storms associated with a cold front tracks through the region. Most of the activity Tuesday evening will be confined to areas west of US 63 and gradually track to the east. By Wednesday, widespread heavy rain is possible, with most locations seeing anywhere from 1.00″ – 1.50″. Severe weather can’t be ruled out, mainly west of 63, but with the trend of heavy rain and cloudy skies, it’s likely the environment won’t become unstable enough. As the front clears the area Wednesday night into Thursday, we’ll see decreasing rain chances. A surface high builds in on the backside of the front, with limited rain chances to follow. We’ll see a noticeable difference in overnight temperatures as lows will bottom out in the mid 60s. Watch ABC17 News for the latest forecast and follow ABC17 Stormtrack on Twitter for updates.
