Court documents: Second man arrested in cop killing changed story
According to court documents, the man accused of hiding the suspected murder weapon involved in a police shooting lied to police about how the alleged shooter got the weapon.
Ian McCarthy was arrested and charged with killing Clinton Police officer, Gary Michael.
William Noble is charged with tampering with evidence after police say he got rid of the gun in a local pond.
According to the probably cause statement, investigators spoke with Noble the morning after the shooting. Police say he agreed to show police the guns at his house in Clinton. Police say he started acting suspicious when he saw the safe was damaged.
The documents say Noble asked police what type of weapon was used in the murder and police told him he knew the answer to that question. Police say Noble acted like he was visibly upset and faked crying. Police asked him why he was fake crying and Noble allegedly told police he sold McCarthy the gun.
The court documents indicate Noble gave police a written statement about buying, then later selling the gun to McCarthy.
Police say he then changed his story and admitted he bought the gun for McCarthy who had asked him to do so. Noble allegedly told police he bought the gun for McCarthy because McCarthy was from out of state. Noble told police the day he bought the gun, he gave it to McCarthy.
Police asked Noble if he knew where the gun currently was. The court documents say Noble stared at the detectives blankly. The detectives asked against and Noble allegedly said he did know where the gun was.
Noble then allegedly told police he came home around 2 a.m. Monday, just a few hours after the fatal shooting of Michael. Court documents indicate Noble saw the gun in his doorway and panicked. He allegedly told police he couldn’t tell them exactly where the gun was, but could led them to it.
Police say Noble took them to the intersection of NW 300th Road and NW 131st Road, north of the Clinton city limits.
Noble allegedly pointed to the water and told police that’s where he threw it. Police say they could see the stock of the weapon under the water. They say it matched the description of the rifle used and appeared to be the weapon used in the murder.
Noble is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
