Audit gives ‘fair’ rating to former Gov. Nixon’s office
A newly released review of the governor’s office is exposing some concerns with the former administration’s expenses.
State Auditor Nicole Galloway’s office gave former Gov. Jay Nixon’s office an overall performance rating of “fair.” That’s one rating above the lowest rating of “poor.”
The audit took issue with some repeat issues with the Nixon administration from previous audits.
That included the administration’s efforts to distribute expenses across agencies, therefore hiding the full cost to taxpayers.
For 2015 and 2016, the audit also found the governor’s office exceeded the allotted amount by $2.2 million.
The state auditor says these closeout audits are meant to ensure that newly elected officeholders are aware of areas for improvement.
