Mother in fatal kidnapping crash indicted by grand jury

A mother charged in connection to the kidnapping and death of her own child has been indicted by a grand jury in Boone County.

Demetres Washington was indicted on one murder charge, three kidnapping charges, and two additional assault charges. A prosecutor will often bring a case to a grand jury to determine if a conviction is likely.

Washington and Mackenzie Quiovers are accused of kidnapping three of Washington’s children from a family member ‘s home. The children’s aunt and grandmother chased Washington down I-70 before the cars crashed near Route J. One of the children died from her injuries.

Washington has two court appearances scheduled for Monday. She has an arraignment scheduled for 9 a.m. and a criminal setting for 5 p.m. During the criminal setting, a judge could put this case on a docket for trial.
