Columbia police could start carrying life-saving medication
Columbia police officers may soon be equipped with a life-saving medication that reverses drug overdoses.
City council members are expected to take action on an agreement between CPD and the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse at their meeting Monday.
The agreement would provide officers with Narcan, and train them on how to use it.
The Columbia Fire Department firefighters started carrying the drug in January.
According to the Center for Disease Control, 91 people died each day from opioid overdoses in 2015.
