Overnight lane closures on Providence pushed back to Thursday

One north and one southbound lane of Providence Road between Stewart and Stadium is scheduled to close Thursday evening for overnight work.

The 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. lane closures were originally scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday, but were delayed due to part of the completed pavement not meeting ADA-compliant codes, said Barry Dalton, a spokesperson for public works.

The work includes striping the new intersection at Burnam and removing pavement near Rollins and Brandon. It’s now scheduled for Thursday, Monday and Tuesday.

Dalton said lane closures are expected to be minimal Thursday night with longer closures expected Monday and Tuesday.

The ongoing work in the area is all part of the $3.9 million Providence Road Improvement Project, which began in mid-May. It’s designed to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians by improving intersections along Providence.

Turner Avenue and Burnam are still scheduled to reopen Aug. 13. Dalton said once those two streets open, the access point on Providence to Rollins and 5th Street will close.

Dalton said despite some delays, the project is still scheduled to be finished by the fall.
