Marginal risk of severe weather Thursday evening
If you’re a fan of fall weather, you won’t have to wait long. A strong cold front set to track through Mid-Missouri Thursday will bring just that, but also a chance for strong storms.
The Storm Prediction Center has a majority of Mid-Missouri under a marginal risk for severe weather through the evening hours on Thursday. Most of the day on Thursday will be on the dry side, outside of a few spot storms like we’ve seen the past few days. It’s important though to make sure you grab that umbrella as you head out the door Thursday morning, as showers and storms will be more numerous in coverage, unlike what we have been seeing.
Most of the storms through the afternoon hours will be diurnally driven, with the bulk of activity arriving by the evening hours. These storms will be accompanied by a cold front, that will bring the threat for strong storms. More places will be dry than see rain tomorrow, but any storms we do see will likely be on the strong side.
The threat for severe storms looks to be after 4PM and lasting through 10PM, with any remaining storms clearing to the southeast by midnight. While the severe parameters in the atmosphere aren’t entirely impressive, we do have enough instability for some storms to be on the strong side.
Any storms we do see go severe, will likely bring the threat for damaging winds up to 60 mph. Quarter size hail is possible with these storms, but it’s looking like our main threat is really going to be damaging winds accompanied with the storms.
Once storms clear, we’ll see unseasonably cooler temperatures filter into Mid-Missouri. You’ll likely be need the jackets a few mornings, as lows will be in the mid to upper 50s, which for August standards is a win in weather.
