BCSD canine euthanized after cancer diagnosis

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department announced the passing of Brix, a nine-year-old German Shepherd who served since 2009 with his handler, Lt. Philip Smith.

According to the official press release, Brix helped with numerous arrests involving illegal drugs as well as the capture of fleeing crime suspects. Donations from the Columbia Cosmopolitan Club along with several individual donors provided funding for Brix.

Brix was diagnosed with cancer and was euthanized on Tuesday. Brix’s remains were cremated.
