Unseasonably cool weather likely to hold through middle of August

The official start to fall is still seven weeks away, but as of late it feels like it has arrived early. Temperatures for the most part have been in the lower 80s across Mid-Missouri, following a brutal heat wave that impacted Mid-Missouri in July. The cool weather has been welcoming and there are signs that we’ll see even cooler weather track into the region.

Thanks to a series of rare cold fronts this summer, temperatures have struggled to climb back to average in Mid-Missouri. That changes as we head into Wednesday, as temperatures will moderate back towards seasonable averages. Average highs for the first week of August is in the upper 80s, with lows in the mid 60s. The seasonable trend will be very brief in nature, as another rare summer cold front will track through the Midwest and bring us the coolest weather we’ve seen in quite some time.

The Climate Prediction Center keeps the below average temperatures well into August, which for many of us will be a break from the heat.

Thanks to the aforementioned cold front, we’ll continue to see northwesterly flow aloft for a good portion of August. Which not only will keep us on the cool side, but any embedded disturbances will bring daily rain chances.

It is August, so expect temperatures to moderate back towards average before summer comes to an end, but enjoy the fall tease while it lasts.
