MKT trail to temporarily close three bridges to prepare for replacement project
The MKT trail will be closing bridges 5, 7 and 8 Monday to prepare for a replacement project that will start in November. The bridges are expected to reopen Tuesday.
The three bridges are between the trail connectors at Stadium and Forum Boulevard. Click here for a map of the trail and recommended detours.
Monday’s core drillings will be in preparation for a larger replacement project that will start in November and will last until April.
Bridges 5, 7 and 8 are three of four bridges that were recommended for replacement by the May 2013 MKT Bridge Engineering Study and Report. For more information on the bridge replacement project, click here.
The park sales tax, which started in 2001, is providing $230,000 and the Recreational Trail Program grant adds an additional $150,000 for a total budget of $380,000 to replace the three bridges.
In 2015, the Park Sales Tax was renewed with 70% of the vote.
