Corrections officer attacked by inmate at NECC in Bowling Green

A corrections officer is recovering after being attacked in Bowling Green on Wednesday.

ABC affiliate, KHQA reported it happened at the Northeast Correctional Center in Pike County.

The officer was attacked with a homemade weapon and hospitalized. As of Wednesday night, the officer was alert.

David Owen with the Missouri Department of Corrections told the ABC affiliate, “An institutional lockdown has been initiated to ensure the safety of the staff and offender population, and it is still in effect. Offender privileges are limited during a lockdown and offenders are restricted to their cells.”
