Humid Wednesday, with strong storm arriving overnight

TODAY: A heat advisory is in effect for counties along and south of I-70 today, beginning at noon and lasting through 8 PM. While that is the case, the heat today won’t be as extreme as advertised. Earlier this morning, thick cirrus clouds built into Mid-Missouri. These clouds will limit just how warm we will get this afternoon, but it will still feel quite humid outside. Highs this afternoon will climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s. With very humid air in place, heat indices will still approach the triple digits by the afternoon, with the best chance of seeing that along and south of the lake. Isolated afternoon showers are possible this afternoon for counties north of I-70.

TONIGHT: A line of storms from a decaying MCS will track through northwestern Missouri through the night. This line will gain strength through the evening as it enters a very favorable environment. You can expect these storms to push to the southeast overnight through early morning Thursday, weakening as they do so. The bulk of the storms look to push through Mid-Missouri after midnight. There is a marginal severe threat for northern mid-Missouri for isolated damaging wind gusts which is the primary threat with a lower chance of large hail. Areas further northwest are in a slight risk for severe weather, far northwestern Macon county included. Also, heavy rain is expected with some of the storms mainly north of I-70 and localized flooding is a possibility Wednesday night.

EXTE NDED: Showers and storms will move out by noon Thursday but could re-develop south of I-70 in the afternoon due to the slow movement of the cold front. Southeast mid-Missouri is under a marginal risk for severe weather Thursday as damaging winds and potentially large hail are possible. Rainfall amounts from Wednesday night through Thursday are expected to come near an inch north of I-70, with lower amounts south. Local amounts up to 2 inches are possible. High temperatures will cool back into the mid to upper 80s Thursday through the weekend with nights in the 60s. Skies will remain mostly sunny from Friday through the weekend with low humidity and light northerly winds. For additional weather updates follow us @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter and watch ABC17 News.
