Heat today, storms tonight

TODAY: Most of Mid-Missouri is under a Heat Advisory from noon to 8 PM. It will be the hottest day this week as temperatures climb into the mid 90s with humidity also on the rise. The heat index will range from 103-107 in the afternoon with winds from the southwest at 6-10 mph. Western counties will see the most oppressive ‘feels like’ temperatures. There is a chance of isolated storms in the afternoon but most storms will move in late Wednesday evening and overnight.

TONIGHT: Storms will develop in northern Missouri by early evening, tracking southeast into Mid-Missouri as early as 10 PM near HWY 36. These will push to the southeast overnight through early morning Thursday, weakening as they do so. The bulk of the storms look to push through Mid-Missouri after midnight. There is a marginal severe threat for northern mid-Missouri for isolated damaging wind gusts which is the primary threat with a lower chance of large hail. Areas further northwest are in a slight risk for severe weather, far northwestern Macon county included. Also, heavy rain is expected with some of the storms mainly north of I-70 and localized flooding is a possibility Wednesday night.
