Heat and humidity on the rise once more across Mid-Missouri
TODAY: It will be a warm afternoon across Mid-Missouri, with highs climbing into the lower 90s. Once again the heat and humidity will be on the rise, with dew points climbing into the lower 70s. Winds through the day will gradually shift out of the southeast under 10 mph. Thankfully, heat indices this afternoon will only climb into the mid and upper 90s under mostly sunny skies.
TONIGHT: Tonight will be mild and muggy, as overnight lows will only drop into the lower 70s. Skies will remain mostly clear with winds out of the southeast under 8 mph.
EXTE NDED: Wednesday looks to be the hottest day of the week as temperatures will climb into the mid 90s with humidity also on the rise. The heat index will range from 100-105 in the afternoon with winds from the southwest at 6-10 mph. If afternoon storms fire earlier across parts of the plains, we could see temperatures a degree or two lower. This will come as there is the potential for earlier cloud coverage that will keep temperatures from climbing. Through the day Wednesday, storms associated with an approaching cold front will track into the region. Storms will develop in northern Missouri by early evening, tracking southeast into Mid-Missouri as early as 9 PM near HWY 36. These will push to the southeast overnight through early morning Thursday, weakening as they do so. The bulk of the storms look to push into central mid-Mo after midnight. There is a marginal severe threat for areas along and south of I-70 with a slight severe threat along and north of I-70 Wednesday night. Damaging wind and large hail are the primary threats. Due to the slow movement of the cold front, additional storms are possible Thursday afternoon. Rainfall amounts from Wednesday night through Thursday of a half inch to an inch are possible north of I-70 with lower amounts south through Thursday. High temperatures will cool back into the mid to upper 80s Thursday through the weekend with nights in the 60s. Dry weather is expected from Friday through the weekend.
