American Red Cross calls for more blood donations

The American Red Cross is looking for more blood donations amid a blood shortage in the Missouri-Illinois region.

The Red Cross said it got 61,000 fewer blood donations than needed in May and June. It declared a critical blood shortage in the area in early July. The Red Cross said the shortage is equal to not receiving any donations for four straight days.

The Red Cross is asking for donations from all blood types. To find the nearest blood drive near you, you can visit the Red Cross Missouri-Illinois website.
