Quail Drive shooting victim identified, arrest made

UPDATE: Columbia police arrested Willie Lee-Jacari Higgins, 23, Sunday night in reference to Davis’ death on Saturday.

Higgins was in possession of a firearm when he was arrested on Freedom drive. Police believe the firearm was involved in Davis’ death.

Higgins is a convicted felon in Michigan, and was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and for tampering with physical evidence.

Police are still investigating the events that lead to Damian Davis being shot.

Monday, July 24: The Columbia Police Department has identified Damian Davis, 20, as the man who died Saturday from a gunshot wound.

Davis was not on Quail drive when police responded to a call about a gunshot wound in the 2700 block of Quail Drive around 6:30 on Saturday. He had been transported to a local hospital in a personal car when police arrived. Davis was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to the press release, police are still investigating what led up to the shooting.

ORIGINAL STORY (7/22/2017): The Columbia Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in the 2700 block of Quail Drive.

Police said a man was pronounced dead at the hospital after the incident Saturday evening. It happened around 6:30 p.m.

Bryana Larimer, a CPD spokesperson, said the 20-year-old man was taken to the hospital in a personal car. His name hasn’t been released yet.

Police are investigating what led up to the gunshot. At this time no other information is confirmed.
