Boone County Fair competes with the heat
The 2017 Boone County Fair runs through this weekend and will be competing with some major heat.
Organizers tell ABC 17 News they will have emergency personnel walking around to make sure everyone has a safe time.
“We’re taking all the precautions that we can,” said President Jeff Cook. “The nice thing about Sturgeon Fairgrounds is all the shady trees that we have here. That is a big plus.”
The fairgrounds also have three buildings with air conditioning and water fountains.
On the activity side, some ride operators are taking precautions for riders by wiping down the equipment with cool towels.
“The carnival owner and myself are meeting daily to, you know, keep a watch on the heat, on the rides and stuff to keep everybody safe,” said Cook.
Participants with animals are also taking precautions to make sure everyone stays cool.
“Most of the animals we have, we try to keep them on fans instead of air conditioning because if a fan goes off, they can kind of do some adjusting. (If the) air conditioner goes off, they’re just like me and you. They just kind of melt,” Greg Woody of Woody’s Menagerie told ABC 17 News.
If you plan to go to the fair this week, make sure you lather on the sunscreen, stay hydrated and check the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather team’s daily forecasts.
