Excessive heat building into Mid-Missouri
TODAY: An excessive heat warning begins today at noon for Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Gasconade, Moniteau, Monroe, Motgomery, and Osage counties until Saturday at 8 PM. Temperatures this afternoon are already climbing into the upper 80s and lower 90s, with heat indices approaching the triple digits. With the onset of dangerous heat expected to last through the rest of this week, it’s important to exercise extreme caution when heading outdoors. Winds will come in from the southwest and stay light, under 6 mph. Heat indices through the afternoon hours will touch 105 in most places.
TONIGHT: Skies will remain mostly clear and low temperatures will drop into the low to mid 70s with winds shifting out of the southeast under 8 mph.
EXTENDED: An Excessive Heat Warning goes into effect at noon Wednesday until 8 PM Saturday for Benton, Cooper, Chariton, Howard, Macon, Morgan, Miller, Maries, Pettis, Randolph and Saline counties where the heat index is expected to reach 105-110 each day. Temperatures will reach into the upper 90s by Wednesday through Friday. Heat indices will climb back into the triple digits starting Tuesday through the end of the week. It won’t be out of the question to see some areas hit 110+ this week for heat indices. Take precautions to stay cool and hydrated. The heat holds on this week, with cooler weather set to follow as we head into Sunday. A cold front will track through Mid-Missouri and bring a chance for scattered showers and storms and highs back in the 80s.
