Heat and humidity building this week
TONIGHT: Skies will become mostly clear and low temperatures will drop into the lower 70s with winds out of the southeast under 8 mph.
TUESDAY: It will be a mostly sunny, hot and humid day with high temperatures reaching the mid 90s and heat indices reaching near 100 in the afternoon. Winds will come in from the southwest and stay light, under 6 mph.
EXTENDED: An Excessive Heat Warning goes into effect at noon Wednesday until 8 PM Saturday for Cooper, Chariton, Howard, Macon, Pettis, Randolph and Saline counties where the heat index is expected to reach 105-110 each day. Other areas are in a Heat Watch until 8 pm Saturday for heat indices near 105 each day. Temperatures will reach the mid 90s by Tuesday and into the upper 90s by Wednesday through Friday. Heat indices will climb back into the triple digits starting Tuesday through the end of the week. It won’t be out of the question to see some areas hit 110+ this week for heat indices. Take precautions to stay cool and hydrated. The heat holds on this week, but there is signs that as we head into next week that the heat will decrease slightly and we’re likely to see a few showers and storms.
