Temperatures above average; Cooling centers available to relieve people from heat
The Boone Hospital Center admitted at least one person with heat-related injuries overnight Monday.
University Hospital admitted at least seven people with heat-related injuries since Monday morning.
Mid-Missouri is expecting temperatures in the mid-90s with heat indices in the low 100s Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature for July 10 is 88 degrees.
With high temperatures and high levels of humidity, the body has a harder time cooling itself off and the chance of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke, increases.
To stay cool over the summer, Columbia and Jefferson City have cooling centers available.
The centers can be useful for the homeless and people working outside, or whoever just needs a break to cool off.
