Building ridge to bring extreme heat to Mid-Missouri

TONIGHT: It will be a warm and humid evening across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures are only expected to bottom out in the lower 70s. Winds will be out of the south under 12 mph, keeping moisture streaming into the region. Most locations will stay on the dry side, but there is an isolated chance of some storms mainly northeast of I-70. MONDAY: A building ridge will continue to pump in more heat into Mid-Missouri, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s as we head into the afternoon hours. Southerly winds will really ramp up through the day out of the southwest up to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 at times. This will certainly make it feel hot outside, as heat indices will have no trouble climbing into the triple digits through the afternoon hours. By late Monday night, a sagging cold front will spark a few showers and storms north of I-70, which could help in cooling some things off. Any storms that do fire bring a marginal risk of severe weather, with the main threat being damaging winds. EXTENDED: The heat and humidity continue to climb in Mid-Missouri as we head into the coming days. This will bring us our warmest stretch of temperatures we’ve seen all summer, with temperatures in the 90s possible each day and potentially dangerous high heat indices. As we head into the middle of the week, there is signs that the ridge will shift back west. This will open the door for a cold front to track into Mid-Missouri and bring cooler and wetter weather. The chance of showers and storms really ramp up as we head into Thursday, as the cold front is set to track through Mid-Missouri. Rainfall amounts aren’t entirely impressive, as up to an inch of rain is likely to occur between Monday and into the weekend. By this upcoming weekend, we are slightly cooler, with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. For additional weather updates follow us @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter and like us on Facebook.
