11 fire units respond to residential fire in Holts Summit

A home is severely damaged after catching fire in the 12000 block of County Road 4021 Sunday morning, Holts Summit firefighters said.

Eleven fire units and more than 25 emergency responders, including personnel from the Holts Summit Fire Protection District, South Callaway County Fire, New Bloomfield Fire, Cole County Fire, Southern Boone County Fire, Jefferson City Fire and the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department and ambulance, were dispatched to the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming out two sides of the residence.

Firefighters said they were able to contain the fire to one end of the home, but there was severe damage from heat and smoke to the entire home.

Firefighters believe the fire could have started in the carport attached to the home.

The homeowners, who were home when the fire started, told firefighters that they had used a lawnmower earlier Sunday morning and parked it in the carport.

Firefighters said the carport sustained the most damage.

No residents were injured but one pet suffered from smoke inhalation and another pet was unaccounted for, firefighters said.
