UPDATE: 17-year-old expected to survive Fourth of July shooting in Boone County

UPDATE 7/5: A 17-year-old is expected to survive after a shooting in Boone County on the Fourth of July.

A detective with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department says it happened as the victim was riding a moped with another family member around 8:30 Tuesday night on Bethany Drive.

The detective says the teen was shot in the back and got non-life threatening injuries.

The victim told deputies he believed the suspect was a black male, approximately 17 years of age.

Columbia Police officers and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers assisted with this incident. Anyone with information about this shooting is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS (7477).

ORIGINAL: On Tuesday night, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department confirmed a 17-year-old was shot in Boone County, near the southwest corner of Columbia.

The department believes the male victim was shot near Bethany Drive and Scott Boulevard.

He then went to someone’s home and asked for them to call 911.

He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, deputies said they had not yet found any shell casings from the incident.
