JCPD: Victim, suspect identified in Jackson Street stabbing
UPDATE 4:34 p.m.: According to a probable cause statement released by Cole County, a neighbor said they heard Phillips and Taylor fighting. When officers arrived on scene, Taylor had been stabbed in the neck, allegedly with Phillip’s pocket knife.
UPDATE 1:58 p.m.: The victim of the stabbing has been identified as 46-year-old Michael Taylor of Jefferson City. The suspect has been identified as 52-year-old Michael Phillips of Jefferson City.
The weapon that Phillips allegedly used has been secured as evidence.
Phillips is being held at Cole County Jail pending formal charges.
UPDATE: Jefferson City police confirm a man has died after being stabbed on Jackson Street.
Police said the suspect and victim were at Dulle and Hamilton Towers visiting when a fight between the two men allegedly occurred. The 46-year-old victim, a resident of Jefferson City, was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The suspect is being held in the Cole County Jail. Police believe there are no other suspects.
ABC 17 News is working to confirm the victim and suspect’s names.
ORIGINAL: Multiple Jefferson City police officers are on scene at Dulle and Hamilton Towers tonight.
Crime scene tape has gone up around the area on Jackson Street and officers are searching the area with flashlights.
Some residents are standing outside the apartment complex.
The Jefferson City Fire Department was on scene briefly, but has left. At least six police vehicles are still in the area.
