Hearing set for man accused in fatal Jefferson City stabbing

A man accused of stabbing another man to death in Jefferson City is expected in court on Wednesday.

Michael Phillips is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Michael Taylor at the Dulle and Hamilton Towers in February.

According to court documents, police responding to the scene found Taylor with a stab wound to his neck. Phillips was covered in blood, standing next to Taylor and admitted, “I did it. I did it. You got the right guy.”

Phillips said he stabbed Taylor in the neck with his pocket knife.

Taylor was taken to a hospital where he died.

Phillips’s court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Cole County Courthouse on Wednesday.
