Moberly man arrested for drunk driving

A man is charged with driving while intoxicated after he allegedly hit another person’s car while driving drunk in June.

Moberly police say they responded to the intersection of Union Avenue and Porter Street on June 1. A woman there told officers a man hit her car, and he appeared to be drunk at the time.

Police found the man, Estil McDermit, in the area. Officers say his speech was slurred and he smelled like alcohol. He allegedly admitted to drinking for several hours before his involvement in the crash. While in police custody, officers say McDermit told them, “I’m not going to lie, I’m drunk.”

Online court records show McDermit is charged with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender.
