Fire in the Sky closes roads, parking lots ahead of fireworks show

For the 65th year, the city of Columbia is hosting its “Fire in the Sky” Fourth of July celebration.

The event officially starts at 6:30 p.m. with kids’ activities and food trucks in Flat Branch Park but it’s closing roads and sidewalks hours beforehand.

The garage at Sixth and Cherry streets is acting as the launch site will be closed at 7:00 p.m. Monday. It will remain closed until 11:30 p.m.

The streets around the garage will also be closed. Locust and Cherry between Fifth and Seventh close at 1 p.m. Seventh Street between Elm and Locust will also close at that time.

Fifth Street between Elm and Cherry will close to traffic at 5 p.m.

Alcohol, personal fireworks, and grills are not allowed at the event. The city recommends bringing a lawn chair or blanket.

The city also recommends letting the traffic clear after the show. The city said many businesses will be open.

Another way to get to the event is by using the MKT Trail into downtown or walk. The trail leads directly to Flat Branch Park.
