Increasing storm chances leading up to July 4th
TONIGHT: A mild and humid evening is underway across Mid-Missouri as temperatures will bottom out in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Clouds will be on the increase from the southwest ahead of an MCS, that will likely bring some spot storms to extreme southern parts of Mid-Missouri after midnight. Most locations will stay dry this evening, outside of those spot storms. Winds for the most part will also be on the light side, out of the southeast under 8 mph.
MONDAY: It will be back to feeling like summer, as increasing humidity and warmer temps will bring a return of the heat indices in the 90s. Thanks to a building ridge and a slow moving upper level disturbance, showers and storms will only be of the scattered variety through the afternoon and evening. Most locations will stay dry through the day. There is a marginal risk for severe weather, with the greatest threat being pea size hail and damaging winds. Highs will top out near 90 degrees, with winds out of the south under 8 mph. The showers and storms really begin to increase overnight Monday into Tuesday.
EXTENDED: For the Fourth of July, periods of storms are expected all day and overnight across the entire viewing area. Another Marginal Risk for severe weather exists for areas west of US 63 for Tuesday. The primary threat will be isolated thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and large hail. Accumulation from Monday and Tuesday rain is expected reach near 0.5″-1.5″, with areas to our west seeing the most accumulation. Expect seasonal temperatures this week, reaching into the mid to upper 80s each day. Drier and warmer weather will enter the picture by Thursday with highs in the 90s.
