Wonderful weekend conditions, but storms will be back for the holiday

As we begin the holiday weekend, the weather is finally quiet thanks to a high pressure system moving into the area. We will see dry, less humid air and mostly clear skies for Saturday and on into Sunday with temperatures into the upper 80s and 90 degrees. However, some rivers in Mid-Missouri are near or above flood stages due the heavy rain from this past week. You’ll want to check river levels before camping or doing water activities this weekend.

The dry weather won’t be around for long as a warm front moves its way into Mid-Missouri. Our best chance for rain and storms will come in the afternoon and evening hours on Sunday and will mainly effect areas south of I-70. Periods of heavy rain are possible along with gusty winds as atmospheric conditions become unstable.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase on Monday and on into your 4th of July as a strengthening surface low pushes its way into Mid-Missouri. These storms could be strong to severe, so be sure to keep updated with current conditions and stay aware of watches and warnings, especially if you have plans to be outside.
