Morgan County Sheriff’s Office drug dog receives body armor

A Morgan County Sheriff’s Office drug dog will soon have extra protection in the field.

According to the department’s Facebook page, the 4-year-old German shepherd named “Wolf” will receive body armor from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc.

The department expects to receive the protective vest, which is both bulletproof and stab-proof, in the next eight to 10 weeks. Wolf’s armor will be embroidered with “In memory of K9 Ty, California City Police Department.”

Since 2009, Vested Interest in K9s Inc. has given out more than 2,400 protective vests through donations, at a cost of more than $2 million.

The donation to provide one vest is $1,050.

Wolf is trained to detect narcotics, to preform tracking and handler protection. He has been with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office since 2015.
