Storms for Thursday evening

TODAY: Waking up areas north of I-70 will see a chance for showers and thunderstorms diminishing by later this morning. Temperatures will be cooler to the north where the rain is located, but many places to the south will bottom out in the the 70s by the morning. Through the afternoon there is a slight t-storm chance mainly north of I-70 but areas south will stay dry until evening. It will be a hot and humid afternoon with high temperatures in the upper 80s to 90 and heat indices reaching the mid 90s. Southerly winds of 8-15 mph will gust to 20 mph at times.

TONIGHT: As we head into the evening storm chances will be on the increase. Northwest mid-Mo is seeing the greatest chance of storms to arrive at or after 8 PM, which will track to the southeast through the overnight hours. For tonight, there is an enhanced risk in the forecast for NW mid-Mo, but all areas are under a severe risk. Greatest threat is damaging wind, with the potential for large hail. There is a very low chance for tornado, but it is not an obsolete risk, at a 2% chance for northwest mid-Mo. Temps will be dropping into the low 70s.

EXTENDED: Heading into Friday, any lingering showers or storms are looking to end by the afternoon. As the cold front slowly moves south of I-70 in the afternoon, additional storms will develop and gradually move southeast. Isolated severe storms containing damaging wind or large hail will be possible. These move south of I-44 Friday evening with drier weather Friday night and into the weekend. Highs will stay in the low to mid 80s Friday with lower humidity behind the cold front. This weekend looks dry until late-day Sunday with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s but not as humid. However, as we head into next week the cold front lifts northward as a warm front, and sets the stage for another active start to the work week with an increasing chance of storms Sunday night into Monday and another chance of storms for the 4th of July. The humid weather returns Monday as high temperatures reach the mid-upper 80s. For additional weather updates follow us @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter and like us on Facebook.
