Road work may cause traffic delay for Columbia residents
Road construction starts Monday morning in several areas around Columbia.
The next phase of the Providence Road Improvement Project starts Monday and will close the access to Burnam Road and Burnam Avenue from Providence Road.
Road crews will work on the roadway, adding a sidewalk and a traffic light at the intersection.
Alternate routes include Rollins Street, Bingham Road and Kentucky Boulevard.
Weather permitting, the project is expected to be finished by Aug. 13.
Columbia residents will also have delayed traffic at Conley Road near the Walmart starting 7 a.m. Monday.
Emery Sapp & Sons is scheduled to begin road work affecting the travel lanes on Conley Road, from about the north Walmart drive entrance to the U.S. Route 63 overpass.
The construction is a part of Conley Road Transportation Development District’s East Boulevard Extension project, which will connect Conley Road to Business Loop 70.
Crews will put a four-way stop sign at the north entrance of the Walmart and a lane shift in the area.
Drivers are urged to use extreme caution in the area or, if possible, an alternate route.
The entire project is expected to be completed summer of 2018.
City of Columbia road crews will also be sealing several roads in the city. For a map of all the roads being surfaced, visit the City of Columbia’s Public Works Facebook page.
