Jefferson City man arrested after standoff with police

A 42-year-old Jefferson City man fired multiple gunshots into the air during a domestic dispute Saturday night, police said.

Jefferson City police said they got a call around 9 p.m. about an incident involving a weapon in the 100 block of Havana Street.

Police said the other people in the house were able to get out safely and call 911.

When police arrived at the home, the man refused to come outside.

The Jefferson City Police Department’s SWAT team and negotiators were called to help and take over the scene.

Police said the negotiators were able to persuade the man to come out of the house, without harm, and the SWAT team took him into custody.

The man was taken to the Cole County Jail on charges of first-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

ABC 17 News is working to confirm the name of the man.
