Moniteau County Sheriff slams claims of infestation at jail

The Moniteau County Sheriff is responding after claims of bug infestations at the county jail hit social media.

On Friday, Sheriff Tony Wheatley said recent health inspections at the jail didn’t find any violations and that he has a contract with a pest control company that sprays the facility.

His response comes after ABC 17 News received a Facebook post from Anderson Stout Catherine this week, claiming one person was being refused medication and some of the inmates had scratched themselves to blisters from bug bites.

Wheatley denied this, and said the jail has had a medical contract with Advanced Correctional since the beginning of the year with nurses and a doctor on staff and on call 24/7.

“There will always be complaints from inmates in any county jail. Let’s face facts, it is a jail and not a bed and breakfast so you will probably not get everything you want,” acknowledged Wheatley.
